Starting an At-Home Video Workout

If you’ve decided to start working out at home, a congratulations is in order. It takes courage just to take the first step to make a commitment to yourself about making a change. It is important to start with a steady schedule that you know you can keep up with. You will need to set aside a reasonable time that you can dedicate to working out. Make sure that this time is free if distractions or other temptations that can whisk you away from your workout routine. Decide how many days a week you want to exercise—three to five times a week is ideal.

Next, you will want to think about what kind of videos you are looking for. There are many kinds of workouts available, and you want to choose the one that will best help you reach your fitness goals. Everyone has a different body type and fitness level.

But deciding an at home workout routine can be more confusing than it first seems. If you walk to your local video store, you will find that there are dozens of types of exercise videos to choose from, all guaranteeing success and fast weight loss results. You will need to tailor your workout program to your individual needs. If you are just looking for a workout for general health reasons, to build stamina and energy, or to lose weight, then cardio exercise is probably the best way to go. This generally means aerobics. Recently, kickboxing has also become a popular form of cardio exercise. Look for a video that doesn’t require special equipment—you can just as easily find routines that won’t require the extra cost and space. Cardio exercise can also help you boost your metabolism, so you’ll burn more calories without doing a thing.

If you already get cardio exercise from running, biking, or some other activity, and are looking to target specific body areas, there are many targeted exercise videos available also. Abs are a top one. While there may be many abdominal exercise routines out there, all are essentially the same, working the same areas. What you will want to pay attention to is how long the videos are, and get the one that best works with your schedule.

Pilates is a great way of targeting specific body areas. Pilates exercise sets have separate videos for separate body parts. You can mix and match the videos to customize your own exercise routines. For those of you that aren’t fans of pilates, you will find that there are many other types of exercise to choose from as well.

The important thing is to pick a routine you know you can stick to. Pay attention to the length of the videos. Also, if you are a beginner, don’t run into an advanced routine in a desire to lose more weight. Chances are, it will be too challenging for you and you may end up giving up instead. Always start with a routine you can stick to, enjoy, and works for you. You can always work your way up.
