Low Cholesterol Diet

For people concerned with heart problems and other health provisions, a diet plan is about more than just controlling your weight. People with cholesterol must take special precautions when it comes to their eating lifestyle, because their food intake is directly affecting their health. A low cholesterol diet has to be incorporated to live a full life. Doctors, health pamphlets, and magazine articles repeatedly advise on the dangers of cholesterol. What exactly is cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance present only in animal foods. It is part of the membrane of all cells, including those in our own bodies. The body makes most of the cholesterol it needs, and thus there is little need to eat foods that contain cholesterol. In addition to eggs, there are many foods that contain cholesterol. A low cholesterol diet eliminates or dramatically reduces these foods.

What does a low cholesterol diet entail? To begin with, either cut out completely, or cut down as much as possible on fast food. These foods contribute nothing to your overall health, and the fats that these restaurants use will raise your cholesterol levels. Try to incorporate as much fruit salad and vegetables as possible into your daily diet, and use olive oil as opposed to other vegetable oils in salads and for cooking. Although it may be slightly more expensive, no price is too high to protect you health. Keep dairy to a minimum, and cut down on meat and chicken. You can also eat fish and other seafood.
