Low Carb Diet

Low carb dieting appears to be the revolutionary eating habit of the new millennium. After years of avoiding bacon, mayonnaise, and other fats, the low carb diet seems to have flipped this health phenomenon by allowing fatty foods, and instead, eliminating foods people considered healthy, such as breads, rice, and potatoes. The low carb diet allows you to eat until you are full, as long as you only eat "allowed foods". The foods that are allowed are poultry, fish, meats, eggs, and cheese, plus a limited amount of green vegetables. Basically, such diets are high in protein and low in any starchy or sugary foods.

The main rules of the low carb diet are: limit carbs to no more than 10% of your daily calorie intake, do not eat foods that contain sugar or white flour, omit caffeine, take vitamin and mineral supplements, take fiber supplements, eat only the allowed foods, and drink lots of water.

There are, however, disadvantages to the low carb diet. Some doctors profess that it is an extremely unhealthy weight loss system, eliminating necessary nutrients from the diet, clogging arteries, and causing other health problems with a high intake of fatty foods. The low carb diet may be very difficult for vegetarians to follow due to the restrictive "allowed foods". Also, those who do not enjoy eating a lot of meats, eggs, and cheese may find this diet difficult to stick with in the long term. Any high protein diet which bans carbohydrates is a danger to your health and should be avoided.
