Diet

The diet craze today is more rampant than ever. With a startling number of Americans reaching dangerous levels of obesity, the diet is no longer just a staple for the beauty conscious, but it has become a critical health issue. Obesity has generated such extremes as gastric bypass surgery and liposuction. With a proper diet, of course, none of this would be necessary. But today, the very word "diet" may seem so convoluted. With so many different health theories, which diet is truly best?

There is a difference between a diet optimized for losing weight, and a diet designed to maintain a healthy lifestyle. For those interested in losing weight, the best plan is probably to start on a weight loss diet, then switch to a diet you can maintain for the rest of your life, without gaining back all of the pounds you have worked so hard to lose.

The dieter today is exposed to much more "advice" and "remedies" than just eating right and working out. Instead, there are such diet options as miracle diet pills, fitness systems, and fad diets such as the Atkins Diet, Cabbage Soup Diet, Celebrity Diet, and so many others. Which works for you?

The two main diet lifestyles today are low-fat and low-carb. Studies have shown that over a year, both produce the same weight loss results. The fact is, both of these diet systems cut necessary nutrients out of your diet. Be sure to consult a dietician, nutritionist, or your doctor to help you find the right diet plan for you.
